The Ancient Practice of Qigong

In my last article, Ho'onopono Hawaiian Mantra, I mentioned briefly that I had started practicing ancient egyptian qigong. After feeling the effects of this practice it seems imperative that I write an article about my experience. So first, what is Qigong? Qigong means 'life energy cultivation.' It's a holistic system of coordinated body posture, movement, breathing and meditation used for the purposes of health, spirituality and martial arts training. With roots in Chinese medicine, philosophy and martial arts, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance qi (chi), translated as "life energy." As a reiki energy healer I am quite experienced with channeling “spiritually guided life force energy”, however up until recently I've had no experience with qigong.

Qigong is somewhat similar to tai chi and I did try taking a series of tai chi classes at the LACC years ago, however I never actually continued the practice once the class ended. So practicing qigong daily is really very new to me! I am an unexperienced beginner that somehow stumbled upon qigong while shopping on amazon! Well, it's an interesting story...I was on amazon looking for shungite to buy. Shungite is a very powerful ancient stone from Russia that neutralizes emf's from cell phones, wi-fi etc. Anyway, I decided to buy some shungite/ soapstone harmonizers for healing and an interesting book popped up in a few of the reviews. You can find a lot of interesting recommendations for products when reading amazon reviews! I like to follow the signs! Anyway, the book I found is called, “Egyptian Postures of Power: Salute to the Sun Ancient Qigong System” by Jason Quitt. Turns out that this book has really good reviews and so I invested an easy $19.99 in the purchase!

Now in this book “Egyptian Postures of Power”, the author Jason Quitt explains that he channeled these ancient egyptian qigong postures through a series of astral travels. Astral traveling is when you consciously leave your body while in a dream/ sleep state and travel to other dimensions whereby you pick up information, etc. Now, I really don't know if what Jason Quitt is saying is true or not, however it does make for a unique and magical story...and everybody enjoys hearing magical stories right? And I do personally believe that anything is possible. I am very open-minded. Now there may not be any scientific or historical evidence for Quitt's ancient egyptian system of qigong, however there is something to this! How do I know? Because I have already started to experience the power of these so-called ancient postures and that's why I am writing this article!

So day 1, when I started practicing the postures I literally only practiced one posture because I didn't have much time to read the book but I wanted to get started. Not too exciting! But I still felt good after just one posture...and my shungite/ soapstone harmonizers! I started practicing the postures and using my harmonizers the same day! After reading some more of the book, I began practicing approximately half of the series of postures and then finally I was able to memorize every posture in the series of postures that Quitt details in his book. After this, I started practicing the extra postures mentioned in the book. See, there's a specific set of approximately 13 postures that you are supposed to do in order. Then there's extra postures (standing up and sitting down) that you can add to your routine. When I finally got all the postures down, I was really starting to feel some stuff going on. On day 6 I decided to try using the shungite and soapstone harmonizers along with two of the sitting postures. In his book, Quitt refers to these harmonizers as the “Pharoah's rods” or “cylinders.” He actually sells his own copper, zinc and quartz crystals version of these rods for use with his postures. Supposedly his rods generate electricity. So that's something I will have to purchase and try in the near future!

Anyway, back to the qigong exercises... Yes! I can attest to the fact that energy is definitely moving when performing Quitt's qigong postures! And it's all positive! Being a reiki energy healer, I am extra sensitive to energy. When I perform these exercises I can feel waves of energy moving in my hands as well as sensations of heat and cool energy generated from the hand movements. I can also feel the energy shifting in my body as I transition between the postures. I can feel that each posture is working on something specific in my energy field. No two postures create the same effect.

All the postures are pretty simple and easy to do, although I do find that the “Kundalini Cobra” posture is a little rough on my left arm and slightly rough on my right arm. This posture requires keeping one arm in front of the body and one arm behind the body. There's slow movements involved as well. Anyway, the arm that goes behind the body stretches my arm a little more than it's used to. So I find myself feeling a bit uncomfortable while practicing this posture! And for some reason this posture takes more time to perform than the other ones. But that's really the only issue I have with the postures so no big deal!

Quitt says the postures should take approximately 10 minutes a day to practice. I find it takes me more like 30-45 minutes if I really take my time. I like practicing the postures in the morning before getting my day started. In the beginning I found myself feeling a bit high and even light headed after completing the postures. I even had some tingly stuff happening in my crown chakra (top of my head) and waves of euphoria throughout the day. After a moment though, this initial high seemed to subside as my body and energy field adjusted to the new high frequency energy coming through.

Since practicing this ancient egyptian system of qigong, I've noticed that the reiki I channel appears to be getting stronger. I'm also feeling more intuitive, empathic and psychic, especially when channeling reiki energy. I've been experiencing vivid psychic dreams that I am able to remember after I wake up. And I am having a greater understanding of the meaning of my dreams. One dream in particular made me decide to contact my two cousins and my aunt whom I haven't spoken with for a very long time. I felt that I needed to reconnect. My energy has been getting stronger and I feel more energized daily. I've also noticed that I'm coming up with more creative and inventive ideas since implementing this qigong practice... and I've been taking more initiative to follow through with these ideas. Pretty awesome right?

So in summary, I feel that this ancient practice of qigong is highly beneficial! This is definitely something I am going to continue practicing daily and I believe it's something worth looking into if you're on the spiritual path and/ or interested in becoming an energy healer yourself. Til next time... Peace and Blessings!
