Patience

The universe seems to have a grand sense of humor at times. Especially in moments when our patience is being tested. And although time doesn't actually exist, and past, present and future are supposed to be happening all at the same time, we as humans do not experience this (unless perhaps we are experimenting with psychedelic drugs). Humans experience time. We have 24 hours in a day, 365 days in a year. The sun comes up and the sun goes down. We have seasons. There is a time to plant and a time to harvest. And whether working to accomplish important goals in life that seem to be taking forever, or just being caught in a very time consuming situation, life can be a bit trying on our patience at times.

For years now I've worked on achieving what some may perceive as very ambitious goals. And as difficult as it's been... I come closer to achieving my goals everyday because I just won't give up! It's been years and I still haven't thrown in the towel. However, I have been tremendously patient and relentless. I do believe that all in due time my goals will manifest. In fact, they have already manifested because time doesn't exist. But that's a whole other topic! Back to patience....

I haven't always been as patient as I am now. I used to have anger issues. In fact, I've suffered with a mood disorder my entire life (depression, anxiety, panic, etc). This has definitely impacted my ability to stay patient in trying situations. I used to cry all the time about goals not getting achieved fast enough. I would develop an extreme attitude if I waited too long to eat. I experienced road rage in traffic! Sometimes when waiting in a long line or filling out paperwork I would feel panic, get frustrated and/or just walk away from the entire situation. When people moved too slow with projects (or with anything for that matter) it would get me highly irritated to the point where I would lash out and react in a negative and unbalanced way. I remember one time I was becoming so frustrated by a guy who didn't answer his door fast enough that I kicked a hole in his window with my foot! For the longest time patience was not my strong suit. And unfortunately I've managed to destroy countless positive life changing situations because of this.

I had to change my energy, my mind state and the way I dealt with difficult situations if I was to achieve anything in life. It took a lot of effort. I had to make dietary changes, take certain supplements, meditate, etc. When I was able to get my own feelings under control it made practicing patience a lot easier. Ofcourse I still struggle at times like everyone else. Practicing patience is a lifelong endeavor! And then there's always going to be adversaries who will question your patience... which makes staying patient even more difficult.

From time to time, my father will ask me when I plan to give up on my crazy dreams. He will tell me that it doesn't seem to be happening and perhaps I should change paths. He asks me, “How many more years are you going to give this Jennie?” “At what point will you decide that this goal of yours may not be happening and move on to other pursuits?” “5 years? 10 years?” My father has not been very optimistic when it comes to my lofty goals. My mother has had difficulties understanding my stubborn determination as well. I suppose I understand though. It appears that things are taking beyond forever to manifest. And ofcourse suffering from a mood disorder will certainly slow down the process!

I believe I've told my father on quite a few occasions that time doesn't exist and I don't put deadlines on my dreams. I have faith and I will be patient. The only one who truly knows when things will finally come to fruition is the universe/ divine spirit/ God. All I can do is keep trying and be as patient as possible. They do say patience is a virtue and good things come to those who wait.

I also believe everything has a season. Sometimes work is slow. Sometimes money is slow. But things always change. Things are forever changing. It's tricky, because we all want to see things happen now. No one wants to wait. So we must plant our seeds and remember to stay patient as we await the harvest. The harvest will come. Sometimes it takes a little longer than we plan. That's okay. We just have to hang in there.

I believe patience is quite important when you have a goal in mind that seems to be taking forever. Without patience, you may decide to give up on your goal altogether...or simply self-combust! For me, giving up is not an option. And self-combusting is not going to be very beneficial either! The universe will give us many tests... and throw us many curve balls. It's important to keep a positive perspective on things. Our thoughts make a huge difference when facing adversity. And our thoughts also influence the way we react under pressure. If we lose our patience, we may lose our temper and act out in anger or frustration, making a bad situation even worse. If we stay calm and patient things often get better! So remember, no matter how tricky situations may get....always practice patience! Patience often pays off in the long run!
