Cannabis for Mood Disorders
There are many misconceptions about the use of Cannabis aka “Pot” aka “weed” aka “Marijuana.” Even now with medical and recreational marijuana becoming legalized in many states, there are still quite a few people that view the marijuana user in a negative stereotypical way, aka 'the lazy pot-smoking hippie' and what not. I have always been the open-minded non judgemental type, especially regarding the use of marijuana. Perhaps this is because my own father has been using marijuana medicinally for many years to treat his depression, and he has been very open with me about it. In fact, we've even smoked together a few times. These moments with my dad have always been very positive. I think it helped that we smoked some good weed that didn't make me paranoid!
In college my experiences with marijuana were not quite so good. Perhaps due to the fact that there was no regulation back then, you basically smoked whatever you could get. Many times the marijuana was so strong that I could hardly move, and even worse some of the strains I smoked would cause me major anxiety and paranoia. I experienced that feeling enough times to know that it would be in my best interest to probably not smoke at all.
However, times are changing! There are many more options nowadays! Especially if you are living in a city where marijuana has been legalized. Due to my own mood disorder issues I began dabbling in marijuana use yet again. However, this time I would be a little more careful. I began to research different methods of utilizing marijuana for depression, anxiety, stress and pain. I also researched different strains. I decided that smoking marijuana was not really for me, as smoking in general is just not healthy. Vaporizing is a much better approach. But even when I've vaporized marijuana that was supposed to be helpful for mood disorders I've had mixed results. Sometimes I'd feel good, but other times I'd get too sleepy or my anxiety would get worse.
Finally I decided to try cannabis oil. The first one I tried was the infamous 'Rick Simpson' oil which is known for curing cancer. The result? Way way way too strong! Lol! But if you can't get too sleep, it sure will knock you out! I moved on to CBD/ THC blends. CBD, or cannabidiol, is the chemical compound in cannabis that doesn't get you high but has many therapeutic benefits. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical compound that gets you high, and in many cases paranoid. I started trying high CBD, or CBD dominant, cannabis oils. The first was a 4:1 CBD to THC ratio by a great company called Synergy Wellness. Pretty good! Pretty good indeed! But I felt I needed something a little stronger so I moved on to a 1:1 ratio and bingo! Wow! Amazing! The one I currently use is a great brand that my doctor recommended for me. It's called CBD Alive 1:1 Balanced Drops.... and no, I am not being paid by the company to rep this brand. I'm just sharing what has worked best for me. In my opinion a 1:1 CBD to THC cannabis product is one of the best choices for treating mood disorder. Just 1-3 tiny drops under my tongue has put an end to negative thinking, anxiety, jumpiness and irritability. It's absolutely amazing! And no unpleasant side effects!
So if you are currently dealing with a mood disorder I highly recommend trying a high cbd oil. It's a much healthier choice than using toxic pharmaceuticals!
